Reichel/Pugh Custom 60

Launched in 2002 as Wild Oats IX out of the Azzura Marine, this Reichel/Pugh design was ahead of her time in both design and hull construction. She is a full carbon fibre hull with a largely nomex core creating both a stiff and light hull. She immediately tasted success after her launch and subsequent years:

Yacht design has progressed over the years but true to her pedigree, Wild Joe followed suit by continually being upgraded through the years under her latest owner. Wild Joe was IRC optimized under the guidance of Reichel/Pugh and features a new bowsprit and twin running backstays as well as upgrades to the engine, hydraulic winch package and canting keel system. In 2014 full carbon rigging was added for weight and windage savings and to accommodate the far greater power to weight ratio. In 2018 Wild Joe was once again reborn with a revolutionary new DSS foil system and central canard to complement the new lift generated from the DSS foil system. All these upgrades once again brought her to the forefront of yacht design in this revolutionary new DSS technology that is making inroads into the offshore yachting circuit. To accompany this upgrade, Wild Joe enlisted the aid of multiple Volvo Ocean Race competitor and winner Stu Bannatyne. Stu is a Doyle Sails specialist and was brought in to head up the sail design program and together they have created an offshore boat that rivals any yacht on speed and excitement with some impressive results to date. Wild Joe’s most recent outing was the 2022 Rolex Middle Sea Race where she won on ORC overall and placed 3rd in IRC overall.

As with any well run campaign, Wild Joe is sold with a 40ft container that is setup as a mobile workshop along with storage for spares. The boat also comes with a shore cradle with high and low configurations along with a keel cradle.
