Carkeek CF520 Oystercatcher XXXV

The amalgamation of Carkeek Design Partners and Richard Matthews, the Founder of Oyster Yachts, has led to an exciting new project using the TP 52 as the benchmark to beat. The Carkeek Design Partners utilised their successful Ran VII design as a platform to scale up and create a lighter, stiffer, faster version of a TP52 that doesn’t have to conform to the TP 52 box rule parameters.

The CF520, being lighter, with more sail area and more righting moment than a traditional offshore TP 52 means that she performs well in the upper wind ranges typical with offshore races. The twin rudder configuration allows the helmsman to be able to fully utilise her hull stability without the risk of losing control. Additional thought has gone into the waterproof detailing and the deck ergonomics. All of which are clearly designed with offshore racing in mind and to accommodate the desire to race with around 8 crew offshore, a water ballast system has been incorporated to add additional righting moment when needed.

The composite structure of OYSTERCATCHER XXXV was superbly built by Fibre Mechanics and then fitted out and finished off by Fox’s boatyard in Ipswich. Launched in 2021 with great anticipation, Oystercatcher XXXV didn’t disappoint with an impressive list of result for her first year’s racing:
